Technology in the Classroom

technology-collageI was not fully aware of how important technology in the classroom  really was until my internship. During my pre-internship we did not have technology available to our fingertips. There was a Mimio in the classroom, although it rarely worked properly. Our coop teacher was not fully trained nor comfortable with using it, so we just ended up doing things the “old-fashioned” way. Fortunately, where I did my internship (Ecole White City School), there was a SmartBoard in every single classroom! This was extremely exciting and opened up many learning opportunities for me.

I would say that I used some form of technology for almost every single lesson that I taught. Even if I was using the SmartBoard simply as a projector or a glorified white board, I was still using it. As soon as the SmartBoard was turned on, the students were instantly engaged! I also showed quite a few short YouTube clips, and the students also loved that. Quite often they would ask, “Do you have a video for us today Miss. Cooper?” I would love to be trained on how to use a SmartBoard to its full potential some day.

Toward the end of my internship, my cooperating teacher started using Remind 101. I am excited about this, as I will get updates from her so I can attend celebrations in the classroom. I will also be going skating with my class during this semester, and Remind 101 will easily keep me notified about the dates they are going skating.

I look forward to learning more about how to use technology in the classroom!
